We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks

We real cool. We Left school. We Lurk late. We Strike straight. We Sing sin. We Thin gin. We Jazz June. We Die soon.

I feel that the author of this poem speaks to the youth. Young people like staying up late, drinking, and doing "sinful" things.
Although all of this may be fun at the time, if you keep living this way things tend to catch up with you. If your always living life
in the fast lane then you may die soon.

Success in the Future

Success is almost impossible to define. While some define it in wealth or luxuries I define success in the quality of life that you live. It is the year 2050 and I couldn't be more successful. I live in a small house by the New Jersey Shore and love every minute of my life. I have been happily married for almost 30 years and have a large family consisting of many grandchildren. Although I did not make much money in my lifetime I have travelled to many places and seen many amazing sites. I wake up everyday with a smile on my face knowing that today is just another ordinary day in my life. I am probably the most successful person in America.

Describe This

This object has two different parts that interlock to form one powerful object. The body of the object is narrow and cold like a flag pole in December. The body also shines like a diamond in the sun and has a green glow to it. The front part of the object or the "head" is strong like a the spine of a book but still has many holes in it. Through the wholes are many pieces of colorful string interwoven perfectly to form an almost spider web like appearance. See if you can guess what my object is.

The Inauguration

Today our country will make history by inaugurating our first African American president. I feel like people are making a bigger deal out of the event of the inauguration than they should be. Of coarse electing a president is a big deal but the actual inauguration I feel is not as important. The voting has already taken place and Obama is definitely going to be president this is why I find it difficult to get excited for the inauguration.

"Bad" Secrets

One of my friends came to me with a situation that was pretty serious. They asked me how I would handle it and I couldn't come up with much being that it was a pretty serious issue. At the time I felt like I needed to speak an adult about the situation but at the same time I knew it could make the situation worse. After a while me and my friend worked out the situation and things turned out ok but for a while I felt like I had a rock in my stomach.

Thoughts on The Scarlet Letter

While reading The Scarlet Letter I notice that the language of the author is very difficult to understand. I am not knocking the quality of the author's writing but, this novel was wrote many years ago and the language spoke back then is difficult to interpret. I feel like if the novel was presented in an easier style of writing I would be able to enjoy the book a lot more. Despite the difficult language in the novel, I still enjoy the book. There are many lessons of sin and virtue to be learned from the story of Hester.
